Nikola Simpson
Head of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Accelerator Lab for Barbados & the Eastern Caribbean
As a part of the UNDP Accelerator Lab for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, BlueDIGITAL applies digital tools and solutions to improve Blue Economy value chains for fisherfolk, consumers, tourism industry partners and the government. As such, the Digital Business Basics for Blue Economy MSMEs in the region will be fundamental in supporting the potential economic transformation, recovery, and resilience of key sectors such as fisheries and tourism, while paying special attention to vulnerable groups such as women. This initiative aligns with UNDP’s digital transformation strategy which is essential as we build forward better under a Blue Economy for Green Islands approach in the Eastern Caribbean.

This course builds on the notable success of the 'THE KEY: Your Digital Business Toolkit', which saw over 400 MSMEs in the Eastern Caribbean and beyond retooled and better equipped to do digital business following the unprecedented impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. I am, therefore, extremely grateful to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for the opportunity to continue contributing to the training and capacity building of this critical but vulnerable segment of the region's business community.
